Study of structural and thermal properties of electron beam irradiated polymethylmethacrylate/bisphenol‐A‐polycarbonate blends

Abstract: Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA)and bisphenol-A-polycarbonate (PC) polymer blends are prepared by solution casting technique using tetrahydrofuran as a solvent. The structural properties of the polymer blends before and after they had been irradiated to electron beam accelerator was investigated by color strength, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and FTIR spectroscopy. The thermal properties such as TGA and DSC were investigated. The TGA thermograms showed that the thermal stability of the unirradiated polymer… Show more

“…Polymer blending has always been considered as an economical way to develop new polymeric materials whose physical properties may not only be superior to one of the component polymers but also tunable as a function of the blend composition [1][2][3]. The blends of PC and PMMA have been received considerable research attention [4][5][6] because of their potential applications as gas separation membranes, pearl materials, discs substrates in optical data storage medium, and packaging materials [7,8].…”

“…The knowledge of structural and morphological characteristics of polymers greatly facilitates understanding of the behavior of such polymers when they are used in different domains. Polycarbonate (PC) is a thermoplastic that has properties such as consistent clarity, excellent impact strength, dimensional stability, creep resistance, and heat resistance . At the same time, radiation modification of polymers is one of the methods that enable the receiving of new polymeric materials with specific properties .…”
