We apply the picture proposed in a previous Letter, which relates the hyperon polarization in unpolarized hadron-hadron collisions to the left-right asymmetry in singly polarized reactions, to the production of different hyperons in reactions using different projectiles and/or targets. We discuss the different ingredients of the proposed picture in detail and present the results for hyperon polarization in the reactions such as pp, K − p, π ± p, and Σ − p collisions. We compare the results with the available data and make predictions for future experiments.

The polarization of A ~ 4 ~ S + and N inclusively produced in X-induced interactions at 330 GeV has been measured in the experiment WA89 at CERN. This is the first measurement of polarization of baryons produced by an unpolarized hyperon beam. No polarization of ~0 is observed, as was also the case in proton beam data. At transverse momenta of about 1 GeV/c A ~ and 27 + show little polarization, significantly lower than in the proton beam data, while 3 have a polarization comparable to the polarization of A ~ produced in proton beams.
