Study of phase behavior and physical properties of a natural gas reservoir with high carbon dioxide content

Abstract: The discovery of natural gas reservoirs with high and varying CO2 content (5% to 98%) in China has attracted worldwide attention. In this paper, the phase diagram of natural gas with different CO2 content was calculated and drawn by PVT Sim 100 which was fitted by experimental data based on the Ruska PVT 2730 apparatus. Both the real critical parameters and the pseudo‐critical parameters were calculated and compared. Also, the phase state of natural gas along the wellbore in a representative well under both s… Show more

“…Reservoir temperature, oil composition, and the purity of injected CO 2 are considered to be the main factors of MMP. Typically, the contaminants are methane, nitrogen, or intermediate hydrocarbons, such as ethane, propane, butane, and H 2 S. In general, the presence of CH 4 or N 2 in CO 2 can greatly increase the CO 2 MMP, while the presence of H 2 S, C 2 H 6 , or intermediate hydrocarbons (such as C 3 , C 4 ) can decrease the CO 2 MMP [3] . In view of the potential gas sources and significant costs of gas separation, production gas re-injection, if near-miscibility could be achieved, is a practical method to develop QHD offshore oilfield.…”

“…Knowledge of the phase behavior for formation fluid is the key to ensuring the stable and efficient production of the reservoir [15]. Complex phase equilibrium will occur when the gas is injected into the reservoir, such as tertiary oil recovery, CO 2 geological storage, and the gas injection process of the gas storage studied in this article [16,17].…”
