Study of Parameters and Theory of Sucrose Dust Explosion

Abstract: To investigate the parameters of sucrose dust explosion, the minimum ignition energy (MIE) and minimum ignition temperature (MIT) were evaluated. The experiments tested the MIE of sucrose dust under different conditions of dust quantity, ignition delay time (IDT), and powder injection pressure (PIP). The experiments tested the MIT of different particle sizes. The results demonstrate that the MIE of sucrose powder under three conditions was an open-up quadratic polynomial. When the dust quantity, the IDT, and P… Show more

“…Different from the heterogeneous reactions of metals [12], phase change and pyrolysis are considered to be the preconditions for the explosion of sucrose dust [13,14]. Some scholars have proposed that flames appear on the surface of sucrose particles [15]. After that, the flame temperature will rise rapidly [14].…”

“…These materials are often finely ground and can easily become airborne, creating a combustible dust cloud. If this dust cloud encounters a source of ignition, such as a spark from equipment or static electricity, a dust explosion can occur [2]. Extensive research and technological developments have been performed on the nature, severity, mechanisms, and damage control of dust explosions.…”
