Study of pancreatic lipase inhibition kinetics and LC–QTOF–MS‐based identification of bioactive constituents of Momordica charantia fruits

Abstract: The different parts of Momordica charantia have been reported to have several therapeutic applications against hyperglycemia and hypercholesterolemia associated with pancreatic lipase (PL). Inhibition of this enzyme prevents the absorption of dietary triglyceride in the intestine, and thus exerts an anti‐obesity effect. This study aimed to investigate the bioactive constituents of the fruits of M. charantia (MCF) extract and fractions against pancreatic PL followed by study of their inhibition kinetics. The PL… Show more

“…The total phenolic content of the hydroalcoholic extract of Potentilla fulgens root was determined using the Folin‐Ciocalteau following the method of Chanda et al. [24] with some modifications. In brief, 20 μl aliquot of extract (1 mg/ml in methanol) was added with 90 μl of 10% Folin‐Ciocalteu's reagent followed by 90 μl of 7.5% NaHCO 3 .…”

“…It has been proved that the inhibitory activity of MC ethanol extract on pancreatic lipase and α -glucosidase is performed in a dose-dependent manner [ 49 ]. Moreover, the suppression of the ethyl acetate fraction of MC extract on pancreatic lipase is positively correlated with its phenol content [ 50 ]. Momordicin, a compound identified from MC, acted against α -amylase with IC50 of 15.86 μ g/ml [ 51 ].…”
