Study of optical properties of highly oriented nanocrystalline V2O5·nH2O films doped with K ions

Abstract: Optical transmission and reflection measurements of highly oriented nanocrystalline K x V 2 O 5 ÁnH 2 O films (0 B x \ 0.01) were studied. The optical constants such as, refractive index, the extinction coefficient, absorption coefficient, optical band gap have been calculated. The optical spectra of all samples exhibited two distinct regions of optical gap, E op1 suggesting a direct allowed transition with optical gap ranging from 0.37 up to 0.42 eV and E op2 suggesting a direct forbidden transition with opti… Show more

“…Transient electronics ubiquitously requires a transient power supply. 3,9 Compared to many battery electrode materials which are already potentially transient in triggering materials (e.g. KOH solution), vanadium oxide (V 2 O 5 ) is chosen for this work due to its higher capacity 10,11 and faster transient behaviour in alkaline.…”

“…PVP is commonly referred to as a water-soluble polymer, where the dissolution of PVP nanofibers in water occurs immediately with a dissolution rate dependent on the alkalinity of the solution; meanwhile, V 2 O 5 reacts with the alkaline solution to form a slightly yellow solution indicative of K x V 2 O 5 . 9 Traditional battery separators are based on microporous polyolefin membrane materials, 10,11 which are normally not suitable for transient energy storage because they are limited by their dissolution in aqueous solution. The polymer PVP was chosen as the base battery separator material and fabricated using an electrospinning technique.…”

“…Figure 19 illustrates the plotted graph of the real dielectric constant ε 1 with the λ 2 . Where it shows the relation is linear at higher wavelengths (Mady et al 2012). The extrapolation of these linear parts on the y-axis gives the value of ε ∞ as shown in Fig.…”

“…Making thin films of nanocrystalline material can be easily achieved using the sol-gel technique. And vanadium pentoxide gels are a good candidate for optical and electronic devices (Ramana et al 1997;Bahgat et al 2011;Mady et al 2012) as it exhibits its semiconducting properties from electron transfer between V 4+ and V 5+ ions (Wright 1984;Takeda et al 1996). The optical transmittance spectrum of V 2 O 5 sol-gel exhibit a characteristic absorption band at a wavelength of about 500 nm and it has a steady transmittance of 75% in the visible region.…”
