Study of Nuclear Structure by Electromagnetic Excitation with Accelerated Ions

Abstract: We shall, in the present article, con6ne our attention mainly to electric and magnetic excitations produced by bombardment with nuclear particles. A brief review of the theory of inelastic electron scattering is given in Sec. IIE.3. ). "T.Huus and J. H. Bjerregaard, Phys. Rev. ' 92, 15'79 (1953).r4B. Elbek and C. K. Bockelman (submitted for publication). 5 Recently, Coulomb excitation studies have been made employing cyclotron accelerated nitrogen ions LAlkhazov, Andreyev, Greenberg, and Lemberg, Nuclear Phys… Show more

“…The multiple-Coulex code CLX, based on the Winther-De Boer theory [24] has been used to determine the set of matrix elements that reproduce the observed relative cross sections. The previously known B(E2; 2 + 1 → 0 + 1 )=0.152(5) e 2 b 2 value from Ref.…”

“…The~utilityof the subroutine CLMINT is to generate the initial values for a recursion scheme. In the case R1 = 0, R2 = cc, the integrals i/,~can be expressed in elementary functions which are much easier to obtain by other methods [7,10].…”

“…The next consideration was how to investigate the convergence of the asymptotic series and how to check on the accuracy to which the I,~could be approximated by the method of calculation, described in this section. To this end we remark that there exist many recursion relations between the integrals with different 1, 1' and A values [7][8][9].We choose the following one:…”

“…This approach was originally applied to Coulomb excitation of nuclei by Alder et al (1956) and first extended to the proton excitation of ions by Seaton (1964). In the case of semiclassical calculations, either first-order approximations or close-coupling approximations have been used.…”
