We examine the decay modes η/η ′ → π + π − γ within the context of the Hidden Local Symmetry (HLS) Model. Using numerical information derived in previous fits to V P γ and V e + e − decay modes in isolation and the ρ lineshape determined in a previous fit to the pion form factor, we show that all aspects of these decays can be predicted with fair accuracy. Freeing some parameters does not improve the picture. This is interpreted as a strong evidence in favor of the box anomaly in the η/η ′ decays, which occurs at precisely the level expected. We also construct the set of equations defining the amplitudes for η/η ′ → π + π − γ and η/η ′ → γγ at the chiral limit, as predicted from the anomalous HLS Lagrangian appropriately broken. This provides a set of four equations depending on only one parameter, instead of three for the traditional set. This is also shown to match the (two-angle, two-decay-constant) η − η ′ mixing scheme recently proposed and is also fairly well fulfilled by the data. The information returned from fits also matches expectations from previously published fits to the V P γ decay modes in isolation.

An overview of η and η′ decays at BESIII

The world's largest sample of 1.31 billion J/ψ events accumulated at the BESIII detector, provides a unique opportunity to investigate η and η ′ physics via two body J/ψ radiative or hadronic decays. For many η ′ decay channels the low background data samples are up to three orders of magnitude larger than collected in any previous experiment. Here we review the most significant results on η and η ′ obtained at BESIII so far. The analyses range from detailed studies of the common decays dynamics, observations of new radiative and Dalitz decays, and search for rare/forbidden decays with sensitivity up to B ∼ 10 −5 . Finally, prospects of the forthcoming runs at J/ψ peak for the η and η ′ physics are discussed.

Amplitude analysis of the anomalous decay η′→π+π−γ

In this paper we perform an amplitude analysis of η ′ → π + π − γ and confront it with the latest BESIII data. Based on the final-state interaction theorem, we represent the amplitude in terms of an Omnés function multiplied by a form factor that corresponds to the contributions from left-hand cuts and right-hand cuts in the inelastic channels. We also take into account the isospin violation effect induced by ρ − ω mixing. Our results show that the anomaly contribution is mandatory in order to explain the data. Its contribution to the decay width of Γ(η ′ → ππγ) is larger than that induced by isospin violation. Finally we extract the pole positions of the ρ and ω as well as their corresponding residues.
