Study of magnetic actuation systems

Abstract: This study presents an analysis of magnetic actuation systems (MAS). The behavior of an actuator is described by crosscoupled models of the mechanical and the electromagnetic interaction. The full MAS model is analyzed as a combination of four systems: electrical (power stage), control, mechanical and magnetic systems. In addition, the behavioral model that was developed, emulates the static and dynamic behavior of the actuator. The main benefit of the modeling approach is that it significantly reduces the com… Show more

“…In MAS with closed-loop control system, the controller keeps the actuator unsaturated, so the influence of current on the permeability is neglected. The full relationships between air gap length and current are analyzed in [8]. However assuming constant permeability, the inductance is inversely proportional to the air gap length, represented by x:…”

“…The setup consists of a H-bridge power stage and realization of the actuator is done by extension of the changing inductor model [13] to behave as described in (1), including dependence in the current as analyzed in [8]. Winding resistance has been also implemented.…”
