Study of knowledge and practices of hand washing among mothers having children under 5 years of age in urban field practicing area of Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal, Telangana, India

Abstract: Hand washing: clean hand saves lives is defined as physical removal of microorganisms from the hands using soap (plain or antimicrobial) and running water. According to WHO estimates, 3.8 million children aged less than five die each year from diarrhoea and ARI. An estimated 88% of diarrheal deaths worldwide are attributable to unsafe water, inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene.
