Study of J/ψ decaying into ωpp̄

Abstract: Abstract. The decay J/ψ → ωpp is studied using a 5.8 × 10 7 J/ψ event sample accumulated with the BES II detector at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider. The decay branching fraction is measured to be B(J/ψ → ωpp) = (9.8 ± 0.3 ± 1.4) × 10 −4 . No significant enhancement near the pp mass threshold is observed, and an upper limit of B(J/ψ → ωX(1860))B(X(1860) → pp) < 1.5 × 10 −5 is determined at the 95% confidence level, where X(1860) designates the near-threshold enhancement seen in the pp mass spectrum in J… Show more

“…Besides J/ψ → γpp there is also experimental information on J/ψ and ψ ′ decays into three-body channels involving app pair and a pseudo-scalar (π, η) [1,[52][53][54][55][56] or vector (ω) [57,58] meson. There is, however, a strong variation in the quality of the data.…”

“…Analogous structures have not been observed at pp threshold in related channels as radiative ψ(2S) decays, ϒ(1S) → γ pp or J/ψ → ω pp [5]. The nature of X(pp) has stimulated many interpretations.…”

“…However, in both of the Refs. [19,20], there will be difficulty for J/ψ → ωpp from current knowledge, where, for pp, it also involves isospin-0 1 S 0 , the same quantum number as J/ψ → γpp, however, no threshold peak was found there [23,24]. Concerning the allowed quantum numbers (constrained from parity, charge conjugation and isospin symmetry) for various decay channels, one could refer to Ref.…”

“…[13], which is in isospin-1 1 S 0 , not isospin-0. The logic is that the isospin-0 1 S 0 is constrained from the data for J/ψ → ωpp [23,24] which does not show a peak at threshold, and thus the prominent peak in J/ψ → γpp should come from isospin-1.…”
