“…This expression assumes that the number of parton-parton interactions per collision is distributed according to Poisson statistics [6], and that the two scatterings are distinguishable [7]. Previous measurements of e have come from c 1997 American Institute of Physics 1 2 the AFS [3], UA2 [4], and CDF [5] experiments. The most signi cant measurement, e =12.1 +10:7 5:4 mb, was obtained from the CDF analysis of four jet events.…”

“…The most sensitive v ariable, S [5], is the azimuthal angle between the transverse momentum (p T ) v ectors of the two best-balancing pairs (photon + 1 jet, and dijet). In SP events, momentum conservation biases S towards 180 o , while in DP events the S distribution is atter.…”

“…We restrict ourselves to this simple form (2.5) regarding it as the first estimate for the DPS contribution. The CDF [20] and D0 [21] measurements give σ eff ≃ 15 mb, that constitutes roughly 20% of the total (elastic + inelastic) pp cross section at the Tevatron energy.…”

“…The splash of research activity around MPI in recent years [4,5] has been stimulated by the experimental evidence for double parton scattering (DPS) in the processes producing two independently identified hard particles. Such processes have been observed in pp and pp collisions for the final states containing four jets, γ + 3 jets, and W + 2 jets by AFS [6], UA2 [7], CDF [8,9], D0 [10][11][12], AT-LAS [13], and CMS [14] Collaborations. The data on double J/ψ production [15], and single J/ψ production as a function of the event multiplicity [16] can also be successfully interpreted using DPS [17][18][19][20] and MPI models, respectively.…”
