Study of dispersion stability and wear property of lubricating oil blends added with nanographene for a diesel engine

Abstract: Good dispersion stability of lubricating oil blends added with graphene is the premise of playing its superior tribology property. In this paper, the dispersion stability of modified graphene in lubricating oil and the wear property of nanolubricating oil on the key friction pair for a diesel engine was studied by simulation and experiment. The results showed that the dispersion of modified graphene in lubricating oil was improved at ambient temperature and pressure and at high temperature and pressure. Howeve… Show more

“…Lubricating oil is known as the “blood” of the engine, which is one of the key factors affecting the mechanical efficiency and reliability of the engine. With the implementation of National VI emission standards 1 , and under the pressure of energy shortage and harsh working conditions, the quality requirements of engine lubricating oil become more stringent, especially the excellent anti-friction and wear-resisting properties 2 , 3 . With the development of nanotechnology, more and more researchers study lubricating oil nano-additives with anti-friction and wear-resisting characteristics, such as soft metals 4 , 5 , metal compounds 6 9 , organic compounds 10 , 11 , graphite and its interlayer compounds 12 15 , etc.…”

“…Significantly, the antifriction and antiwear properties of lubricants can be improved. [7][8][9][10] Nano copper has low melting point and good extreme pressure property. It can repair the micro-damaged parts of friction pairs and play the role of ball bearings effect in the sliding process.…”

“…Graphene and its derivatives can not only be used as solid lubricants 4–6 (such as thin films or solid fillers) to reduce the wear of friction pairs, but also to be as lubrication oil additives. Significantly, the antifriction and antiwear properties of lubricants can be improved 7–10 . Nano copper has low melting point and good extreme pressure property.…”
