Study of coupled double diffusive convection–radiation in a tilted cavity via a hybrid multi-relaxation time-lattice Boltzmann-finite difference and discrete ordinate methods

Abstract: The coupled double diffusive natural convection and radiation in a tilted and differentially heated square cavity containing a non-gray air-CO 2 (or air-H 2 O) mixtures was numerically investigated. The horizontal walls are insulated and impermeable and the vertical walls are maintained at different temperatures and concentrations. The hybrid lattice Boltzmann method with the multiple-relaxation time model is used to compute the hydrodynamics and the finite difference method to determine temperatures and conce… Show more

“…Lattice Boltzmann method is utilized to simulate different hydrodynamics systems [36,37]. The reason for the popularity of LBM over conventional CFD methods is the local dynamic and special nature of this method that allows users to easily parallel the computation and simple adoption of the method.…”

“…Few investigations (Nikbakthi and Rahimi, 2012;Khodakhah and Nikbakthi, 2016;Oueslati et al, 2014;Jenaa et al, 2015) were carried out on doublediffusive natural convection in cavities whose side walls are partially heated and cooled.. Nazari et al (2015), Moufekkir et al (2015) and Ren et al (2016) numerically investigated double diffusive natural convection in cavities using Lattice Boltzmann method. Corcione et al (2015) gave correlations for the ddnc in square enclosures induced by opposite temperature and concentration gradients.…”

“…They explored the convection characteristics at different height ratios of liquid to air and performed uncertainty analysis for the experimental data. Qin et al (2014) succesfully analysed DDC in a rectangular cavity of aspect ratio 2 using compact difference method, Moufekkir et al(2015) and Ren and Chan (2016) simulated double diffusive convection in vertical enclosures successfully using lattice Boltzmann method. Corcione et al (2015) analysed heat and mass transfer rates in a differentially heated and salted square cavity case and gave the correlations of Nusselt number and Sherwood number.…”
