“…Electrocatalytic Activity of 1-CPE for the Reduction of Chlorate Figure 5 shows cyclic voltammograms for the electrocatalytic reduction of chlorate by 1-CPE in 1 M H 2 SO 4 aqueous solution. It can be seen clearly that with addition of chlorate, the first reduction peak currents remain almost unvaried, and the latter two reduction peak currents increase gradually meanwhile the corresponding oxidation peak currents decrease gradually, suggesting that chlorate is reduced only by the four-and six-electron-reduced species of molybdenum, which is consistent with other POM-modified electrodes which have catalytic activity toward the reduction of bromate and hydrogen peroxide [8,36]. We have noted that four-electron-reduced species have better catalytic activity than six-electron-reduced species for the electroreduction of chlorate.…”

“…With the increase of BrO À 3 concentration, the cathodic currents of the second redox wave rise and the corresponding anodic currents decrease and disappear, while the ®rst and the third waves are almost unaffected. This catalytic behavior is similar to the electrocatalytic reduction of BrO À 3 on the PMo 12 -PPY ®lm electrode [40], but is different from that of the PMo 12 -modi®ed electrode described in the literature [16]. The BrO À 3 is reduced by the four-electron-reduced species in the presence of protons to yield Br À , and the catalytic activity of PMo 12 -doped CCE toward the reduction of BrO À 3 does not increase with the further reduction PMo 12 to its six-electron-reduced species.…”

“…So the electrochemical experiments were all performed in acidic aqueous solution of pH 1.5 in 0.2 M H 2 SO 4 according to the literature [66]. Inset of Figure 1 Figure 2 shows the cyclic voltammograms of the modified electrode at different scan rates in the potential range 0.65 to À 0.18 V in pH 1.5, 0.2 M H 2 SO 4 solution.…”
