“…Also the hexadecupole strength may be distributed over a few neighboring states, in contrast to the octupole strength, which is concentrated in the lowest 3 − state. One may compare with a study of 112 Cd by Hertenberger et al [6] and Garrett et al [53]. As for the octupole vibration, it is reasonable to assume that the K =0 + hexadecupole excitation will be pushed down to rather low energy.…”

“…For the closed shell nucleus 208 Pb only two excited 0 + states have been observed so far: a neutron pairing vibrational mode [1] and an octupole two-phonon excitation [2][3][4]. Intruder configurations may contribute in addition as known for 40 Ca and for less closed nuclei as 90 Zr, 96 Zr [5], 112 Cd [6], and others. In deformed nuclei a large variety of excited 0 + states is expected as discussed in detail below.…”

“…Data exist on pair-correlated states in the residual nuclei via measure-arXiv:1910.12093v1 [nucl-ex] 26 Oct 2019 ments of the (t,p) reactions on targets of 112 Cd [15] and 114 Cd [16], which are discussed below. In the case of the residual 112 Cd nucleus, high-resolution (p,p ) and (d,d ) data exist that provide information on spin assignments for excited states in this nucleus, including the location of excited 0 + states [17]. The current work reports on states populated in the 114,116 Cd(p,t) 112,114 Cd reactions up to ≈3 MeV in excitation and with superior resolution compared with the limited data previously available in the literature.…”

“…Evidence for the 2p-4h nature of the intruder states was obtained via ( 3 He, n) two-proton transfer experiments [5], two-neutron transfer measurements [6,7], and inelastic scattering reactions (see, e.g., Refs. [8,9]). Owing to enhanced proton-neutron correlations, the intruder excitations form more-deformed structures, and after mixing with the spherical levels is taken into account, the underlying vibrational interpretation of the "normal" phonon states was not questioned.…”

“…Comprehensive level schemes have become available for the many of the stable Cd isotopes through detailed spectroscopy, by using primarily fusion-evaporation reactions [11][12][13][14][15][16][17], inelastic scattering and transfer reactions [8,[18][19][20][21][22][23][24], the (n, n γ ) reaction [9,12,[25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32], and β decay [12][13][14][33][34][35]. These studies have provided a wealth of data not previously available.…”
