Studies on Yarn Hairiness of Polyester/Cotton Blended Ring-Spun Yarns Made from Different Blend Ratios

Abstract: In this study, 1.4 denier and 32 mm of fiber-length polyester and 30.2 mm fiber-length cotton (4.35 micronaire) rovings of 695 tex (αtex = 10.7) were blended with different polyester/cotton ratios (i.e. 17/83, 33/67, 50/50, 67/33, and 83/17). The yarns were produced at a spindle speed of 11,000 rev/min with a 42 mm ring diameter, where C-type half round travelers of 85 and 95 mg were employed in ring frames. The resulting 36 tex (αtex = 37.5) yarns were examined by measuring their tensile strength, elongation,… Show more

“…So it can be said that these all parameters explain the tenacity with the higher R square. Fibre blend ratio influenced yarn tenacity and this result is expected and reported from some other researchers [6,9,11,21]. The most effect size of independent parameters on tenacity is blend type with highest F value.…”

“…Blending of different kinds of fibres is widely used to reveal new alternative functional products and to improve the performance and the aesthetic qualities of yarns and fabrics [2]. Approximation of physical and mechanical properties of blended yarns has also been studied by various researchers [3][4][5][6][7][8]. There are various regenerated cellulosic fibre alternatives to enhance the performance of yarn and fabrics.…”

“…R 2 value also reveals that CV% significantly depends upon fiber type from view point of P/C blended yarn. It is due to staple length and unvarying fineness of polyester fiber, which causes more evenness to the yarn in cross-section (Canoglu and Tanir 2009;Celik and Kadoglu 2009;Nawaz et al 1999;Temel & Celik 2010). Yarn imperfections are given in Table 3.…”

“…As the ratio of polyester in the blend increases, yarn tenacity, liveliness, and elongation increases whereas yarn hairiness diminishes; furthermore, yarn evenness becomes better with increase in polyester content (Celik & Kadoglu 2009;Canoglu and Tanir 2009;Nawaz et al 1999;Temel and Celik 2010). Uster irregularity also depends upon the material; cotton yarn has less U% than that of polyester while the blend lies in between (Balasubramanian and Nerurkar 1974).…”
