Studies on trifluoromethanesulfonic acid. Part 2. Conductivities of solutions of metal trifluoromethanesulfonates and other bases in trifluoromethanesulfonic acid

Abstract: . Can. J . Chem. 58,22(1980) Electrical conductivity measurements are reported for solutions in trifluoromethanesulfonic acid of a number of simple and complex bases. including univalent and divalent metal trifluoromethanesulfonates. The univalent metal salts, water. aniline, and acetic acid behave a s fully dissociated bases, while the alkaline earth metal salts show considerable ion association. The trifluoromethanesulfonate anion appears to have an abnormally high mobility, as compared to the metal cation… Show more

“…The box sizes and densities obtained from equilibration are shown in Table 3. The computed triflic acid density is 1.692 g cm À3 at 300 K and is in excellent agreement with the experimental [46] density of 1.698 g cm À3 at 298.15 K.…”

“…Triflic acid is a strong acid with a conductivity of $10 À5 S cm À1 at room temperature. 36 Proton transfer of triflic acid to different azole derivatives was previously reported 37 and the study indicated the effect of pK a of the azole molecules on proton conductivity of azole-TA systems. However later studies showed that proton conductivity of the azole immobilized systems depends mostly on the acid ratio and the mobility of the polymer chains rather than the pK a values.…”
