Studies on the Structure of the Pulmonary Trunk

Abstract: A MILD DEGREE of pulmonary arterial hypertension associated with an increased pulmonary vascular resistance is a normal feature in people livinig at high altitudes.1-4It has been recently demonstrated that a considerable number of museularized pulmonary arterioles is present in these people at all ages.5 This fact gives indeed an anatomic substratum to the hemodynamic findings. The well-known occurrence of right ventricular hypertrophy in adults6 7 and children8 living at high altitudes can now be better under… Show more

“…In contrast to the loosely organized elastic lamina in adults, the aortic type of lamellar structure is found in the pulmonary artery trunk in individuals less than 9 years of age (263). However, in high altitude natives the aortic type of lamellar structure persists in adults (28, 264). Similar organization is observed in yaks and llamas adapted to high altitude (62, 111).…”

“…Not all students had chemistry in high school, nor were they taking the class for the first time. The four participants were representative of the group’s heterogeneity; this diversity enriched the perspectives and insights into the chemistry class and the evolving student population at University A . Importantly, all 27 Chem1 students were Hispanic.…”

“…Student engagement (SE) is a complex term that encompasses three dimensions: behavioral (students’ actions in the classroom), cognitive (mental actions while acquiring knowledge), and emotional (attitudes toward school and their sense of belonging). Because of its complexity, enhancing SE requires addressing it in a holistic way and defining it clearly and operationally . For this research, Zepke and Leach’s definition was used: SE involves “students’ cognitive investment in, active participation in, and emotional commitment to their learning,” as it captures students’ behavioral, cognitive, and emotional engagement (p 168) …”

“…More specifically, it encompasses the random selection 13 and subsequent thematic coding 14 of 40 articles from The New York Times and the Washington Post, written and published between 19 March and 1 May 2003, by 20 embedded and 20 unilateral reporters. The use of the NVivo software has enabled the first cycle coding 15 of these articles into codes which can successively be organized into categories (see Appendixes D and E), and the second cycle coding 16 of these categories into three themes corresponding to topics raised in issue narratives established by the US government to legitimize the Iraq War (see Appendix D).…”
