“…The time to complete this event is species-specific. Aedine species show a great variation: Aedes iriomotensis , Aedes albopictus , Aedes atriisimilis were shown to rotate 180° respectively around 12, 22 and 40 hours after emergence [10]; 18 to 24 h were required for Aedes aegypti [8]; 30 h for Aedes taeniorhynchus [11] and nearly 4 days for Aedes provocans [12]. Culex tritaeniorhynchus and Culex quinquefasciatus completed the rotation in 19 h [13,14].…”

“…Behavior of Ae. maehleri more or less resembles to "early copulation" described for Culiseta inornata Williston (Rees andOnishi 1951, Lang 1977), Opifex fuscus Hutton (Marks 1958, Haeger andProvost 1965), Deinoserites cancer Theobald (Downes 1966, Provost and Haeger 1967, Conner and Itagaki 1984, and Aedes iriomotensis Tanaka & Mizusawa (Miyagi and Toma 1981). Males of these species have antennae of reduced plumosity, and copulation with a female just having emerged continues some minutes on the water surface.…”

“…Two pupae are near the left border. (Miyagi and Toma 1982). Main larval habitats of these species are ground pools (Zavortink 1972, Miyagi and Toma 1982, Alfonzo et al 2005, and factors that caused no or weak resistance are unknown.…”

“…This time was chosen so that males and females were likely to have reached sexual maturity. Although it is unknown when this occurs for Aedes sierrensis , in congeneric species males tend to reach maturity one to two days after emergence (Miyagi & Toma 1982, Chevone et al 1976, Provost et al 1961) and females can take a blood meal two days after eclosure (Lyimo & Takken 1993). Adults were starved prior to the trial as we found that sugar-feeding impacted individual thermal tolerance in preliminary trials.…”
