Studies on the life-cycle ofPleurogenoides ovatusRao, 1977 (Trematoda: Pleurogenetinae)

Abstract: The life-cycle of Pleurogenoides ovatus Rao, 1977, infecting the frogs, Rana tigrina and R. cyanophlyctis has been elucidated. All the life-cycle stages from egg to egg-producing adults were successfully established in the laboratory. The life-cycle took about 80 days for completion. Cercariae were found in the freshwater snail, Digoniostoma pulchella, collected from paddy fields at Chelembra, Malappuram district of Kerala, during the monsoon months. Cercariae are of the virgulate xiphidiocercous type. Metacer… Show more

“…Amphibians, particularly anurans, harbour a variety of adult and larval trematodes involving freshwater gastropods as first intermediate hosts in their life-cycles (Duda and Verma, 1996). The trematode fauna of amphibians of India has been the subject of numerous investigations, including those by Mehra and Negi (1926a, b;l928), Bhalerao (1926Bhalerao ( , 1936a, Srivastava (1933a, b;1934a, b), Pande (1937), Chauhan (1954), Gupta and Agrawal (l966, 1967), Pandey (1968Pandey ( , 1969aPandey ( , b, 1981, Gupta, (1970Gupta, ( , 1977, Ghosh (1970, 1972), Singh (1977) Janardanan et al (1987, Janardanan and Prasadan (1991), Brinesh and Janardanan (2014) and Prasadan (2017a, b, 2018a, b, c, d).
