“…They can be easily derived from enthalpies of dilution and mixing of solutions containing n solutions. As an extension to our previous studies, in the present paper we report the heterotactic enthalpic interaction (or virial) coefficients of interactions between DMF and the polyalcohol molecules in aqueous solutions according to the McMillan−Mayer theory . These coefficients reflect the sum of the enthalpic effects of interactions between the components in aqueous solutions.…”

“…According to the error propagation, the relative mean deviation of the enthalpies of dilution and mixing was less than 1 %. The details of this apparatus, associated equipment, and the experimental procedure have been reported elsewhere. …”

“…The initial work in this area comes from Xin-Gen Hu and coworkers who published a few papers about enthalpies of dilution and chiral pairwise interactions of optical isomers using ITC in mixtures that contain water and are also rich in highly polar aprotic solvents. In other work by this group, ITC dilution experiments were conducted with many other chiral systems such as additional alkyl diols (enantiomers of 2,4-pentanediol and 2,5-hexanediol), 12 α-amino acid enantiomers, 13 and β-amino alcohol enantiomers. From the dilution measurements, it is possible, based on the McMillan and Mayer theory, to calculate the pairwise interactions of the system.…”

“…The values of the homochiral enthalpic pairwise interaction coefficients (h SS /h RR ) for the optical isomers of the three diols grow linearly with the concentrations of the polar aprotic solvents ( Figure 2). 14 In all cases, it was found that pairwise interactions are |h SS | > |h RR |; in other words, for all the S-enantiomers, the enthalpic pairwise interaction coefficients were higher than for the corresponding R-enantiomers.…”
