Abstract

Carrot (Daucus carota L.) is an important root vegetable, belongs to the family umbelliferae with diploid chromosome number 2n = 18. It is cultivated all over the world, during spring-summer in temperate countries and winter in tropical and sub-tropical countries. Carrot is an excellent source of carotene a precursor of vitamin A and fibre in the diet (Handelman, 2001).
