Studies on the Immune Response of Guinea Pigs to the Envelope Substance of Pasteurella Pestis

Abstract: Summary According to fluorescent antibody observations, Fraction I injected in oil persisted in guinea pigs for 186 to 210 days. Its distribution detected with fluorescent antibody and by radioactivity differed. The latter suggested combination with antibody resulting in catabolism by the liver, elimination by the kidneys and brief storage in bone marrow not seen with fluorescent antibody. Only fixed reticular macrophages and fibroblasts were observed to ingest the antigen. It was not stored lon… Show more

“…Passive protection has been accomplished using antibodies directed against either the F1 or the LcrV antigen [ 37 , 44 , 48 , 49 , 50 , 51 , 52 , 53 , 54 ]. Both mouse- and human-derived anti-F1 mAbs have been demonstrated to protect mice against Y. pestis infection [ 48 , 49 , 55 ]. The anti-LcrV mAb 7.3 antibody is an IgG1 and also protects against plague disease [ 37 , 47 , 56 ].…”

“…F1–04-A-G1 is an IgG1 mAb that was generated to F1 capsule material and has been demonstrated to protect mice against plague. 33 , 41 The anti-LcrV mAb 7.3 is also an IgG1 subclass antibody and is reliably protective in mouse models of plague. 21 , 39 Due to their excellent passive protection in mice against Y. pestis challenge, anti-F1 F1–04-A-G1 and anti-LcrV 7.3 were used as benchmarks in testing the 21 novel mAbs with unknown protection profiles.…”
