“…It is known that activities of adenylate cyclase and cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase are higher in brain tissue than in other tissues (1)(2)(3), and regulatory roles of 3',5'-cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cyclic AMP) on brain function have been reported by several workers (4)(5)(6)(7)(8)(9)(10)(11) was increased by addition of 5 mM dibutyryl cyclic AMP and 1 mM theophylline, though theophylline did not increase the ACh release. Dibutyryl cyclic AMP alone also showed a stimulatory effect on the ACh release, but the effect seemed to be variable.…”

“…ln.our previous studies (17,18), young chicks were used to elucidate the effects of cyclic AMP, biogenic amines and prostaglandins on the central nervous system. We favored young chicks rather than mammals as experimental animals as it was possible to show the re markable effects of cyclic AMP on locomotor activity quantitatively, and to observe that remarkable effects began to appear in 20 sec to one min after intracerebral administration.…”
