Studies on the Entero-Hepatic Circulation of 14c Porphyrins

Abstract: SUMMARY. The possible existence of an entero‐hepatic pathway for porphyrins has been studied in bile‐fistula rabbits and in isolated inverted hamster gut sacs using isotopically labelled porphyrins. Results from the gut sacs suggest the existence of a less than 20% absorptive pathway and a major pathway could not be demonstrated in the rabbits.
