The investigated compounds are some derivatives of orthotolidin-N,N 0 -bis (4-aminobenzene-2-sulphonic) acid. The temperature dependences of the electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient are studied on the thin films deposited from dimethylformamide solution onto glass substrates. It is known that the investigated compounds have typical semiconducting properties. The values of some important parameters of the films (thermal activation energy of electrical conduction, concentrations and mobilities of charge carriers) have been determined. The correlations between some of these parameters and molecular structure of the respective compounds are discussed.

ABSTRACT:The studied polymers (chelate modified polysulfones) have been prepared by the polycondensation reaction between chloro-end-capped polysulfones and bis(2,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde)Cu 2ϩ in the dymethyl sulfoxide/dichlormethane system, in the presence of an aqueous sodium hydroxide solution. The temperature dependence of electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient of the respective polymers was investigated using thin-film samples, deposited from chloroform solutions onto glass substrates. The polymers under study have typical semiconducting properties. The values of some characteristic parameters of the investigated polymers (for example, activation energy of electrical conduction, ratio of carrier mobilities, etc.) have been determined. The nature of the electrical conduction mechanism is discussed. The values of the optical bandgap energy are determined from the absorption spectra.

A series of four copoly(azomethine-sulfone)s have been synthesized and extensively characterized. The chemical design has been thought to obtain semiconducting properties and thermotropic behavior matching the processing of the materials from the ordered melted state, suitable for the spontaneous alignment of molecules in the active layer on a substrate. Prototypes of thin films based on this series of polymers have been electrically and structurally characterized. It was found that the respective polymers show typical semiconducting properties. The thermal properties with particular reference to their mesomorphic state were checked by using differential scanning calorimetry, polarized light microscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis techniques. Morphological characterization was realized by atomic force microscopy and X-ray diffraction measurements. Some correlations between electrical properties and packing closeness were established.
