Studies on the Electrochemical Behaviour of Hydroquinone at L-cysteine Self-Assembled Monolayers Modified Gold Electrode

Abstract: L-Cysteine is combined onto gold electrode to form a self-assembled monolayers modified electrode (L-Cys/Au SAMs) by taking advantage of strong sulfur-gold interaction. ATR-FTIR, SEM, cyclic voltammetry (CV) and impedance were used for the characterization of the film. It shows excellent stability upon voltametric scanning and a good voltametric response towards hydroquinone with the potential ranged from 0.8 to -0.2 V (vs.SCE) in 0.5M HAc-NaAc buffer solution (pH 4.8). The oxidation potential of hydroquinone … Show more

“…However, potentials as high as +800 mV (versus SCE) have been employed at pH 7.0, albeit in buffered acetate electrolyte (Wang and Du, 2002). To investigate the potential-dependent behaviour of Au and Pd under conditions appropriate to later biological applications (buffered chloride solution, pH 7.4), and to compare with more common Pt and GC substrates, CV experiments were carried out scanning between 0 and 0.8 V (versus SCE) in PBS for the four electrode materials (Fig.…”

“…Various ion radicals that are methyl viologen, benzyl viologen, hydroquinone, tetracyanoquinodimethane, and www.intechopen.com neutral red (NR) have been used as electron mediator to induce electrochemical redox reaction between electrode and electron carriers that are NAD + , FAD, and cytochrome C (Pollack et al, 1996;Park et al, 1997;Wang and Du, 2002;Kang et al, 2007). In order to in vivo drive and maintain bacterial metabolism with electrochemical reducing power as a sole energy source, only NAD + or NADP + is required to be reduced by coupling redox reaction between electron mediator and biochemical electron carrier .…”
