The increase in agricultural production as well as its nutritional quality at a cost bearable by producers is today a challenge in rural areas. Vermicompost is a low-cost organic amendment known for its effectiveness on agricultural productivity increase but little is diffused about its efficacy on nutritional quality. This study aimed to evaluate the benefits of vermicompost from cattle dung on Lagenaria siceraria yield and its edible parts content in mineral and in heavy metal compared to raw dung. The study was carried out in the region of Mankono the biggest area for L. siceraria production in Côte d’Ivoire during three cycle seasons. The experiment consisted of three treatments arranged in a complete randomized block design with four replicates. The agronomic parameters as yield, number of leaves and flowers per plant were evaluated. Also, mineral nutrients and heavy metal concentrations in roots, leaves and seeds were measured. Results showed that yield, number of leaves and flowers per plant were higher with the vermicompost than with the cattle manure and the control. The yield obtained with the vermicompost was 2.5 times and 20 times higher respectively than that with the cattle manure and the control. Mineral concentrations in roots, leaves and seeds were the highest with the vermicompost when heavy metal contents were the lowest. The present study indicates that vermicompost utilization improves the yield and the nutritional quality of the edible parts of L. siceraria and hence could be recommended to producers for increasing productivity with keeping the health and safety of human.

during kharif 2020 to evaluate seed quality parameters of mungbean. Treatments comprised of selected combinations of varying doses of fertilizer nutrients (N, P 2 O 5 and K 2 O) with and without FYM. Results revealed improvement in majority of seed quality parameters including 100 seed weight, germination (%), shoot length (cm), root length (cm), seedling length (cm seedling -1 ), seedling dry weight (mg seedling -1 ), seedling vigour index I, seedling vigour index II under 20 kg N ha -1 with FYM @ 10 t ha -1 , 75 kg P 2 O 5 ha -1 with FYM @ 10 t ha -1 and 30 kg K 2 O ha -1 with FYM @ 5 t ha -1 out of the varying doses of N, P 2 O 5 and K 2 O (keeping other two nutrients doses constant in the combination). Consequently, the use of suitable combination of fertilizer nutrients integrated with FYM may be advantageous for producing better quality seeds of mungbean along with an overall improvement of crop yield.

Based on the concepts of circular economy and bioeconomy, the reuse of agrifood residues through vermicomposting can help solve serious environmental problems such as soil contamination and degradation, erosion and climate change. In this sense, the objective was to identify, quantify and analyze the physical, chemical, hormonal, amino acid content and microbial biodiversity of three formulations of vermicompost, with and without inoculation of microorganisms from native forest and commercial formulation, aiming at the production of an organic fertilizer rich in microorganisms for use in sustainable production systems. As a result, the vermicompost formulations presented values higher than the minimum requirements stipulated by Brazilian legislation for the registration of class A composite organic fertilizer. There is a significant difference between the vermicomposts, in the parameters related to the content of phosphorus, auxin, tryptophan and organic matter, as well as the relation between humic and fulvic acids. Bacillus sp. and Trichoderma sp. were also influenced by the type of vermicompost formulation. In addition, inoculation with microorganisms from native forest promoted an increase in biodiversity, in which the presence of Actinomyces sp. and Azotobacter chrooccocum contribute to the reduction in the levels of heavy metals in the compost. It is concluded that vermicomposting is a potential tool in the reuse of agri-food residues, with expressive microbial diversity that can influence plant growth, suppression of pathogens, minimize or reduce the effects of biotic and abiotic stresses on plant production, in addition to contributing to maintenance of soil biodiversity, integral fertility and resilience to climate change.
