Studies on the Effect of Nano-Sized MgO in Magnesium-Ion Conducting Gel Polymer Electrolyte for Rechargeable Magnesium Batteries

Abstract: Magnesium-ion conducting gel polymer electrolytes (GPEs) with different contents of nano-sized MgO have been prepared and investigated by various electrical and electrochemical techniques. The Mg 2+ ion conduction in GPEs was confirmed from cyclic voltammetry and impedance analysis. It was found that doping appropriate nano-sized MgO in the GPE can induce significant improvements in both the electrochemical and the mechanical properties of GPEs. The composite GPE with 7% MgO shows a high ionic conductivity of … Show more

“…The same overall oxygen transport features can not be expected to occur in the case of a MgO x layer, due to its Mg 2+ ionic conductivity [40], but the non-volatile and irreversible oxidation of the Co surface under forward bias may still be understood. While we expect the reaction in Eq.…”

“…The ionic transport properties of MgO and Al 2 O 3 are, instead, fully defined, since nanosized MgO exhibits Mg 2+ ionic conductivity [40] and Al 2 O 3 exhibits ionic conductivity due to oxygen ions [41], though we could not exclude a small contribution of electronic conductivity for the non-stoichiometric oxides.…”

“…The main improvement methods are adding nano-fillers, compounding with plasticizers, and so on ( Figure S1E) (Cheng et al, 2018). Specific examples of nano-fillers include ZnO, MgO, Al 2 O 3 , polyethylene, and polystyrene (Kim, 2017;Wu N. et al, 2017;Tripathi and Kumar, 2018).…”
