Studies on the development of spectrophotometric method for the determination of haloperidol in pharmaceutical preparations

Abstract: Recebido em 26/2/11; aceito em 18/7/11; publicado na web em 19/8/11A spectrophotometric method based on the formation of ion-pair complex between haloperidol and eriochrome black T (EBT) at pH 1.85 has been described. The formed complex was extracted quantitatively into chloroform and measured at 510 nm. Infra red (IR) studies were performed to confirm the formation of ion-pair complex. Beer's law was obeyed in the concentration range of 2.0-9.0 μg mL -1 with molar absorptivity of 2.67 × 10 4 L mol -1 cm -1 . … Show more

“…Dyes contain chromophores (delocalized electron systems with conjugated double bonds) and auxochromes (electron-withdrawing or electron-donating substituents that intensify the color of the chromophore by altering the overall energy of the electron system). Usual chromophores are -C=C-, -C=N-, -C=O, -N=N-, -NO2 and quinoid rings, usual auxochromes are -NH3, -COOH, -SO3H and -OH (8).…”

“…The extraction of HP from plasma and brain samples was carried out using the liquid–liquid extraction (LLE) technique. Plasma sample and homogenized brain tissue (0.5 mL) were mixed with 100 µL loratidine (100 ng/mL) as an internal standard 39 , 40 . The mixture was shaken with 2 mL isopropyl alcohol for 2 min on a vortex mixer and then fractionated at 4000 rpm for 10 min until a clear organic layer was separated.…”
