Studies on the Development of Colon Targeted Oral Drug Delivery Systems for Ornidazole in the Treatment of Amoebiasis

Abstract: The aim of the present study is to develop colon-targeted drug delivery systems for ornidazole using guar gum as a carrier. The core formulation containing ornidazole was directly compressed. Compression-coated tablets of ornidazole containing various proportions of guar gum in the coat were prepared. All the formulations were evaluated for hardness and drug content uniformity and were subjected to in vitro drug release studies. The amount of ornidazole released from tablets at different time intervals was est… Show more

“…The chemical modification of monoterpenes d-limonene and pinene to their oxides was found to enhance the in vitro permeation of lipophilic molecule haloperidol across human SC [41]. Carvone enhanced the in vitro percutaneous permeation of tamoxifen across porcine epidermis [93], nicardipine hydrochloride across rat skin [95] and nimodipine from hydroxypropyl methylcellu- lose gel across rat skin [96,154]. L-menthol has been found to facilitate in vitro permeation of morphine hydrochloride through hairless rat skin [127], imipramine hydrochloride across rat skin [98], hydrocortisone through hairless mouse skin [155], nicardipine hydrochloride across excised rat epidermis from hydroxypropyl cellulose gels [94] and nimodipine from membrane-moderated transdermal therapeutic system [156].…”

“…RP-LC, MEKC and chemometric methods were developed for the stability-indicating assay and validated [141][142][143]. Monolithic ODS columns and post column chemical derivatization techniques using spectrophotometric, fluorimetric and tandem mass spectrophotometric detectors for estimation of RXB in bulk drugs, formulations including the human plasma were developed [134,[144][145][146][147][148][149][150][151][152][153][154]. The conditions are discussed in Table 3E.…”
