RésuméL'étude phytochimique des extraits de Bridelia ferruginea a montré que cette plante contient des quinones, des tanins catéchiques et galliques, des alcaloïdes, des stérols, des polyterpènes, des polyphénols, des composés réducteurs, des flavonoïdes et des saponosides.L'extrait aqueux de Bridelia ferruginea provoque entre 10 -5 mg/mL et 10 -1 mg/mL une augmentation des contractions rythmiques de muscle lisse Taenia coli de cobaye. Ces effets inotropes positifs antagonisés par l'Atropine (10 -6 mg/mL) sont totalement abolis en milieu pauvre (0Ca 2+ ) et dépourvus de calcium (0Ca 2+ + EDTA 10 -5 M).Ces résultats suggèrent la présence de substances cholinomimétiques dans l'extrait brut. Ces substances favoriseraient l'entrée de calcium dans la cellule musculaire lisse par stimulation des récepteurs muscariniques. Ces substances cholinomimétiques justifieraient l'usage traditionnel de cette plante comme laxatif ou purgatif. Mots-clés :Bridelia ferruginea, Taenia coli, récepteur muscarinique. AbstractPhytochemical and pharmacological studies of bridelia ferruginea benth (euphorbiaceae) on guinea pig taenia coli motility.The phytochemical study of Bridelia ferruginea extracts revealed that the plant contained quinones, catechic and gallic tannins, alkaloids, sterols, polyterpenes, polyphenols, reducing compounds, flavonoids and saponins. The aqueous extract of Bridelia Afrique SCIENCE 05 (2) (2009) 305 -320 Semi Anthelme NENE BI et al. 306ferruginea, for concentrations ranging from 10 -5 mg/mL to 10 -1 mg/mL, caused an increase of the rhythmical contraction of guinea pig Taenia coli smooth muscle. These positive inotropic effects inhibited by Atropine (10 -6 mg/mL) were completely abolished in poor calcium mediums (0Ca 2+ ; 0Ca 2+ + EDTA 10 -5 M). The results suggested the presence of cholinomimetic substances in the crude extract of Bridelia ferruginea. Therefore, the inward calcium flow into the smooth muscle cell would be due to the stimulation of muscarinic cholinoceptors induced by these substances. In conclusion, the traditional use of this plant as a laxative is justified by the presence of these cholinomimetic substances.

Inhibition of oxidative stress and inflammation in vascular endothelial cells (ECs) may represent a new therapeutic strategy against endothelial activation. Sinapic acid (SA), a phenylpropanoid compound, is found in natural herbs and high-bran cereals and has moderate antioxidant activity. We aimed to develop new SA agents with the properties of antioxidation and blocking EC activation for possible therapy of cardiovascular disease. We designed and synthesized 10 SA derivatives according to their chemical structures. Preliminary screening of the compounds involved scavenging hydroxyl radicals and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH × ), croton oil-induced ear edema in mice, and analysis of the mRNA expression of adhesion molecules in ECs. 1-Acetyl-sinapic acyl-4-(39-chlorine-)benzylpiperazine (SA9) had the strongest antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities both in vitro and in vivo. Thus, the effect of SA9 was further studied. SA9 inhibited tumor necrosis factor a-induced upregulation of adhesion molecules in ECs at both mRNA and protein levels, as well as the consequent monocyte adhesion to ECs. In vivo, result of face-toface immunostaining showed that SA9 reduced lipopolysaccharideinduced expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 in mouse aortic intima. To study the molecular mechanism, results from luciferase assay, nuclear translocation of NF-kB, and Western blot indicated that the mechanism of the anti-inflammatory effects of SA9 might be suppression of intracellular generation of ROS and inhibition of NF-kB activation in ECs. SA9 is a prototype of a novel class of antioxidant with anti-inflammatory effects in ECs. It may represent a new therapeutic approach for preventing endothelial activation in cardiovascular disorders.

Of Marx and Makers: an Historical Perspective on Generative Justice

In Marxist frameworks "distributive justice" depends on extracting value through a centralized state. Many new social movements-peer to peer economy, maker activism, community agriculture, queer ecology, etc.-take the opposite approach, keeping value in its unalienated form and allowing it to freely circulate from the bottom up. Unlike Marxism, there is no general theory for bottom-up, unalienated value circulation. This paper examines the concept of "generative justice" through an historical contrast between Marx's writings and the indigenous cultures that he drew upon. Marx erroneously concluded that while indigenous cultures had unalienated forms of production, only centralized value extraction could allow the productivity needed for a high quality of life. To the contrary, indigenous cultures now provide a robust model for the "gift economy" that underpins open source technological production, agroecology, and restorative approaches to civil rights. Expanding Marx's concept of unalienated labor value to include unalienated ecological (nonhuman) value, as well as the domain of freedom in speech, sexual orientation, spirituality and other forms of "expressive" value, we arrive at an historically informed perspective for generative justice. RESUMENEn términos marxistas, la "justicia distributiva" depende de la extracción de valor a través de un estado centralizado. Muchos de los nuevos movimientos sociales centrados en la economía peer to peer, el activismo fabricante, la agricultura comunitaria, ecología queer, etc., toman el camino contrario: mantener el valor en su forma alienada permitiendo que circule libremente desde abajo hacia arriba. A diferencia del marxismo, no existe una teoría general de abajo hacia arriba sobre la circulación del valor no alienado. Este artículo examina el concepto de "justicia generativa" a través de un contraste histórico entre los escritos de Marx y las culturas indígenas en que se basó. Marx llegó a la conclusión errónea de que, mientras que las culturas indígenas tenían formas enajenadas de producción, sólo el valor de la extracción centralizada podría permitir la productividad necesaria para una alta calidad de vida. Sin embargo, las culturas indígenas ahora proporcionan un modelo sólido para la "economía del don" que sustenta la producción tecnológica de código abierto, la agroecología y las aproximaciones de restitución de los derechos civiles. Ampliando el concepto del valor del trabajo no alienado de Marx para incluir el valor no alienado ecológico (no humano), así como el dominio de la libertad de expresión, la orientación sexual, la espiritualidad y otras formas de valor "expresiva", llegamos a una definición de la justicia generativa.
