Studies On Some Thiazolidinones As Antioxidants For Local Base Oil

Abstract: I N THIS work, 5 thiazolidinone derivatives of the type 5-benzylidene -2-(1-piperidinyl)- (105) are synthesized and characterized using conventional tools analyses. They are tested as antioxidants for local base stock and the efficiency of these compounds, as antioxidants, was monitored through studying the change in total acid number and viscosity, the results reveal that the efficiency order is ranked as follows 105 < 104 < 103 <102 < 101. The quantum chemical parameters such as the lowest unoccupied molecul… Show more

“…In the gas phase, both chalcones present practically the same value of E GAP , indicating that the two chalcones possibly tend to have similar kinetic stability. These values found for E GAP are similar to those of the compounds used to preserve the oxidative capacities of fuels, such as BHT ( E GAP = 546.1 kJ/mol), toluene derivatives ( E GAP = 477.8 kJ/mol), and thiazolidinone ( E GAP = 481.8 kJ/mol) . These results indicate that the chalcone presented has kinetic stability similar to the other additives used.…”

“… 95 97 Additionally, the HOMO and LUMO are related to excitation energies and GAP energy ( E GAP = E LUMO – E HOMO ) in some situations can be an indicator of kinetic stability (large GAP values are associated with kinetic stability). 98 107 For some compounds used to preserve fuels properties, this parameter is described in the literature (toluene derivative [ E GAP = 114.1 kcal/mol], 108 butylated hydroxytoluene [ E GAP = 130.5 kcal/mol], 109 thiazolidinone [ E GAP = 115.1 kcal/mol], 110 ether molecules [ E GAP = 96.7 kcal/mol] 111 ). Note that, according to the GAP values, the molecules analyzed in this work are kinetically more stable (BH I 175.1 kcal/mol, BH II 180 kcal/mol, BH III 175.17 kcal/mol).…”

“…The difference in the calorific values between BH I , II , and III is related to their supramolecular arrangement formed by chemical energy interactions presented in these compounds. MEP calculation indicates the carbonyl group’s region where the burning reactions can occur, which can be involved with higher energy values. “…Mohammed et al 66 evaluated the efficiency of five thiazolidinone molecules as antioxidant additives for base oils, finding satisfactory results after evaluating the values of total acidity number (TAN) and kinematic viscosity. The five molecules have GAP values ranging from 3.197 to 4.993 eV, which are equivalent to 308.5−481.8 kJ/mol.…”
