STUDIES ON PHYSICAL, MICRO-STRUCTURAL, AND SLURRY EROSION BEHAVIOR OF COLD-SPRAYED Ni–20Cr+TiC+Re COATINGS ON SA516 STEEL FOR HIGH-TEMPERATURE APPLICATIONS

Abstract: In this paper, three kinds of Ni–20Cr coatings were deposited on SA516 substrate steel by cold-sprayed coating technique. Physical properties (such as hardness, surface roughness, and residual stress) and slurry erosion behavior (with impingement angles of 30∘ and 90∘) of cold-sprayed substrates have been evaluated. Moreover, a scanning electron microscope (SEM) examination has been performed to evaluate the morphological characterization of various coatings. It has been found that the residual stresses induce… Show more

“…10 d. In comparison with the findings from the prior-studies, it has been discovered that at times, the micro-fractures amongst the cladding layer and the steel-substrate may be the result of variables like different cooling rates during the cladding process, residual stresses 29 31 . From the outcomes of existing-sources, the occurrence of stress as well as micro-fracture formation throughout the cladding technique can be attributed to differential cooling-rates 32 , 33 . Although, the cladding technique can give rise to residual-stresses, which have the potential to contribute to the formation of tiny-cracks as reported previously 34 , 35 .…”

“…XRD of cladded surface shows the presence of FeNi, Ni 2 Si, FeNi 3 , NiSi 2 , Ni 3 C, NiC, and La 2 O 3 phases. The “formation of hard and carbide phases”, such as the Ni 3 C, NiC, and La 2 O 3 phases, were accountable for ornamental “hardness of SS-304 alloy” after the “cladding of the mixture of 69.72% Ni, 19.28% Si, and 11% La 2 O 3 particles” [ 32 , 33 , 34 ].…”

“…RSM was used to identify the optimum combination of microwave cladding process parameters [ 29 , 30 , 31 ]. In the present study, the central composite design (CCD) in DOE was employed for experimental work [ 32 , 33 , 34 ]. The weight percent of Si, skin depth, and irradiation time and La 2 O 3 (wt.%) were obvious based on the “pilot-run investigation”.…”
