“…This finding is consistent with those of earlier reports (8,11,(17)(18)(19). The age-related prevalence recorded in this survey probably arose because onchocerciasis takes time to manifest.…”

“…Visual impairment due to onchocercal eye disease is demonstrable in about 3% of children aged 5 years who live in hyperendemic communities and 35% of males and 26% of females in such communities are visually disabled by the age of 30 years (Nwoke and Dozie 1997). Although, several studies have been carried out on the incidence of the disease in different parts of the country, particularly the northern bioecological savanna zone (Anosike and Onwuliri 1995;Akogun et al 2000;Anosike et al 2001;Dozie and Nwoke 2002), its distribution and complications remain inadequately understood in many endemic communities in the rainforest. This is especially true in the Imo river basin in southeastern Nigeria, where previous entomological studies (Nwoke and Uwazie 1991) as well as a rapid assessment survey to identify communities eligible for mass treatment with ivermectin showed that the disease is endemic in this area (Nwoke et al 1994).…”

“…On the other hand, we made use of some new analytical methods called the homotopy decomposition method (HDM) to derive the solution of the resulting set of (1) to (5). The numerical results were presented to test the efficiency and the accuracy of the method used.…”

“…The present estimates had suggested that 7-10 million Nigerians are infected with Onchocerca volvulus, and approximately 40 million are at risk of the disease [1]. More than 120,000 cases of Onchocerciasis related blindness have been reported [2][3][4], and thousands of people suffer from disabling complications of this disease [5]. Onchocerciasis, which is the world's second-leading infectious cause of blindness, is a parasitic disease caused by the filarial nematode, Onchocerca volvulus.…”
