“…Total flavonoid was found to be the highest in the pod (58.38 ± 0.001 mg/g), while flower (28.95 ± 0.002 mg/g) contained the least amount. Previously, it was shown that the methanolic extracts of pods and seeds contained 5.28 mg QE/g and 20.3 mg QE/g respectively 28 and 15.47 mg CA/g in pods 29 . Tapan 30 has shown that the methanol extract of pods contained 4.05 mg/g total flavonoid.…”

“…The presence of phenolics in the composition of fireweed polysaccharides was expected, since phenols are linked to polysaccharide chains in many pectins [ 20 ]. For instance, total phenolic content in pectins possessing antioxidant activity was determined to be as much as 1 [ 22 ], 8 [ 23 ], 9.5 [ 24 ], 40 [ 25 ], 26–78 [ 26 ], 49–74 [ 27 ], 91 [ 28 ] and 16–161 [ 29 ] mg GAE/g. The results of the content of phenols in pectins from fireweed (EA-4.0—40 mg GAE/g; EA-0.8—27 mg GAE/g) are consistent with previously obtained data and demonstrate the effect of extraction conditions.…”

“…A typical pectin production process involves hot acid extraction (pH ~2.0) from raw plant material (citrus peel, apple pomace, potato, sugar beets, cocoa husk etc.) [318,319]. Most pectins are extracted using sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid while maintaining the pH in the range of 1.2 to 5.…”
