Studies on a Hybrid Wind Turbine Generating System Using a Current‐Source Thyristor Inverter

Abstract: SUMMARYA practical-scale hybrid wind turbine generating system is developed for generating a constant output power even when the wind velocity fluctuates. The system consists of a wind turbine synchronous generator (SG), a rectifier, a current-source thyristor inverter, an SG driven by a prime mover, and a duplex reactor. A high-quality output voltage waveform is always obtained from the system, which has a very simple configuration. Experimental results show the feasibility of the system. A model of the syste… Show more

“…1 shows the configuration of wind power plant discussed here. As in the figure, the plant consists of ten wind turbine generators (PMSGs) driven by wind turbines WT#1~#10, series-connected thyristor rectifiers, to which the outputs of the wind generators are connected, a current-source thyristor inverter, a synchronous compensator to provide reactive power for commutations of the thyristors, and a duplex reactor to eliminate the higher harmonics contained in the output of the inverter [7]. The rectified ten wind generator outputs are connected in series, and the unified DC output is fed to the current-source thyristor inverter through a DC transmission line.…”
