Experimental second virial coefficient data for carbon tetrafluoride, sulfur hexafluoride, and carbon dioxide have been used to investigate the intermolecular potentials of these molecules on the basis of a Lennard-Jones model. Force constants for the fluoride molecules can be fitted rather satisfactorily, but the constants so derived do not agree with those derived from other gaseous properties, e.g., the critical data. This result may be due to the assumption of central forces for the symmetrical fluoride molecules. For carbon dioxide it was found that the derived force constants varied with temperature, the high temperature data yielding lower values of the collision diameter r0. The results can be interpreted on the basis of a partial association. A likely configuration for the resulting dimer is suggested.

Th e infrared spectra of gaseous tet raftu oroethylene from 22 to 52 j1. and liquid tetrachloroeth ylene from 3 to 52 j1. have been determined. Several hitherto unobserved bands were found. N ew and sati sfactory assignments, for which a detailed discuss ion is given, have bee n achieved. Reference is made to some of the more important contributions that have been made to the s ubj ect of precise measurements of electrical resistance. The sensitivity of bridges when used with the modern high-sensitivity moving-coil galvanometer is discussed rather fully . Special consideration is given to t he methods and apparatus used and to the procedures followed in the National Bureau of Standards in those comparisons in which the precision desired is of the order of 1 part in a m illion.The more important factors limiting the precision of the comparisons, such as load coefficients, terminals, and contacts, thermoelectromotive forces, insulation, and the optical system of the galvanometer, a re disc ussed rather fully. A method of analysis of networks containing both li near and nonlinear four-terminal conductors is given, and the theoretical basis for the experimental procedure used in detert:"\ining the effect of slight defects in the insulation is pointed out. This is followed by a bri ef d:scussion of Ohm's law from the s tandpoint of precise resistance measurements and by a brief disc ussion of units of resistance.
