This research was conducted as one of the earthquake disaster mitigation efforts in Nusa Tenggara Barat region, because this region is one of the regions in Indonesia which has a relatively high level of seismicity. The purpose of this research is to determine seismotectonic parameter, earthquake periodicity along with the average of seismicity rate changes in Nusa Tenggara Barat region. The data used in this research is the data sourced from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and Badan Meteorologi Klimatologi dan Geofisika (BMKG) from Januari 1973 until February 2015 for Bali Strait region up to Banda Sea with coordinate boundaries of 1140–1300 East Longitude and 40-130 South Latitude. This research was conducted using the maximum likelihood method with second party of software Zmap ver 6.0 also software ArcGis ver 10 to map seismotectonic parameter, periodicity and the average velocity of seismicity rate changes. Variation b value range between 0.972–1.44, a low value of b are associated with high stress levels, and vice versa. The a value range between 6.67- 9.1, its show that the regions with high a value experience a relatively high earthquake incidence rate, and vice versa. The density of earthquake is about -2.63 to -2.01 logN/km2 or the occurrence of earthquakes in the area is very rare. Earthquake periodicity with magnitude (M) 6 SR is 5 to 18 year, M 6.5 SR is 16 to 67 year, M 7 SR is 54 to 304 year, and M 7.5 SR is 178 to 1.386 year. The average of seismicity rate changes on a case that occurred in Sumbawa in 1982 is more than 125%, meanwhile the earthquake that occurred in 2009 is more than 75%.Copyright © 2019IPR. Java Island is one of the areas with a population density of 1,171 people/km2, which is relatively high compared to other regions in Indonesia. The tectonic setting of the Java region is affected by the interaction of tectonic plate subduction between the Indo-Australian Plate and the Eurasian Plate which moves at the rate of 67 mm/year. In addition, the presence of several active faults on Java Island also contributes to the tectonic setting. The implication of this setting is a relatively high level of potential earthquake events and some of them are destructive earthquakes. The estimation of b-value variations by using Gutenberg-Richter Equation plays an important role in estimating the occurrence of earthquakes. The aims of this study are to determine the role of spatial and temporal variations of b-value as earthquake precursors on Java Island. In this research, earthquakes analysis was carried out in the form of spatial and temporal variations of b-value from earthquake catalog data in 1900-2016 for the Java Island region. Based on the estimation of earthquake recurrence time for magnitude 6.5, 7, and 7.5, and also the analysis of spatial variation of b-value shows the areas with the potential for significant earthquakes in the west and eastern part of Java region. In addition, our result also obtains the existence of a seismic gap zone in the southern part of Central Java.

The area of West Java and Banten, especially is Southern is one of the areas prone to earthquakes, caused by the fact that the area is part of the ring of fire path and the presence of faults that are still active faults, such as the Cimandiri Fault, the Baribis Fault and the Lembang Fault. The purpose of this study is to determine the level of seismic activity, the fragility of the rocks and the level of the return period to make earthquake resistant buildings. The seismotechnical parameters of a region can be calculated using the Frequency-Magnitude relationship with the Guttenberg-Rithcher formulation, namely by using the Maximum Likelihood method. Based on the results of the research obtained from the combined data of USGS and BMKG, the magnitude of the 4 SR and the depths of 0-300 km. Based on the analysis and distribution of seismicity, it was found that the higher of the frequency the smaller earthquake magnitude is obtained. The results of the seismotechnical parameters provide variations of the b-value in South West Java and Banten around 0.95-1.45, with the highest value in the South of Pandeglang Regency (1.35-1.45) and the lowest in Tasikmalaya District (0.95-1.05). Variations of the a-values of an area around 6.5-9, while the highest value is in the South of Pandeglang Regency (8.5-9) and the lowest in Tasikmalaya Regency (6.5-7). The Seismicity Index is 0.632 and the Seismicity of the largest earthquakes is 0.004. Probability is at a time interval of 20 years with value as follows P (7.20) = 8%; P (7.40) = 15%; P (7.60); 21%. While variation of the return period are with variations of 5 SR = 1-4 years, 6 SR = 15-55 years and 7 SR = 150-550 years
