Introduction and aim: The babirusa (Babyrousa babyrussa Celebensis Deniger) is a genetic resource of immeasurable value, even though it has held protected status for nearly 60 years. Unfortunately, its status remains declared as endangered due to factors such as forest encroachment in the North Sulawesi region. This research aims to investigate the behaviours of community collectors, traders, and consumers concerning their level of interest in babirusa meat, which continues to circulate in the Langowan traditional market, Minahasa Regency. The findings of this study can provide valuable recommendations for the government to formulate new policies and regulations. Methods: The research employed a survey method, focusing on the community of collectors, traders, and buyers of babirusa meat in the Langowan traditional market, Minahasa Regency, and its surroundings. Results: The results from the field survey were then juxtaposed with the outcomes of sensory test analyses conducted by several panellists at the Animal Products Technology Laboratory. Until now, babirusa meat remains a sought-after commodity for Minahasa residents in the Langowan area and its surroundings. This indicates that despite the existence of government regulations in the form of Conservation Law No. 5 of 1990, there is still evidence of the covert sale of protected babirusa meat in the Langowan traditional market, Minahasa Regency, North Sulawesi province of Indonesia. In conclusion: The local individuals in the Langowan traditional market of Minahasa Regency who purchase and consume babirusa meat are predominantly under 50 years old, with a higher representation of males with the majority holds of elementary school education, and their primary occupation of farmers. Public awareness of the endemic babirusa is remarkably high. The sensory test results indicated that babirusa meat is perceived as highly attractive in terms of colour, possesses a distinctive meaty aroma, rough texture, excellent taste, and high tenderness. This positive perception is linked to the understanding that babirusa meat has its own benefits, leading to a genuine liking for this unique meat. Implications: There exists a notable public awareness of babirusa as an endemic animal. The overall acceptability of babirusa meat was noteworthy, reinforcing its significance as an endemic animal in North Sulawesi. Specifically, the Langowan traditional market has been a focal point for the buying and selling of babirusa meat. This practice, which was more prevalent before 1990, continues to be carefully executed in the Langowan market being protected for the next sustainability of this endemic animals.

Silvery lutung (Trachypithecus cristatus) is one of the primates of Cercopithecidae family distributed in Kalimantan and Sumatra. Its habitats are coastal areas, mangroves, shorelines and riparian areas. Currently, research on the silvery lutung has been widely carried out on Sumatra island, but there is a lack of information about the species on Borneo Island. One of the interesting habitats to study is the restored mangrove forest. This study aimed to determine the distribution and population density of the silvery lutung and identify the type of feed in Handil Baru Village, Samboja Sub District, Kutai Kertanegara District, East Kalimantan. Initial information that can be extracted is in the form of an ecological study. The population density was determined by direct observation using the Concentration Count method, while the distribution was analyzed using ArcGIS software version 10.4. We found three groups of silvery lutung in the mangrove area of Handil Baru Village, scattered in Handil Baru Muara, Raden River, and Mantri River. The average population density in each area was 6.63 individuals/ha; 2.65 individuals/ha and 0.72 individuals/ha, respectively, with the number of individuals per group ranging from 17-24. There were 22 plant species found as food sources for the lutungs. The population density was influenced by the extent of habitat use, the number of individuals at the location, and food availability. This research can be used as a reference for habitat management and regional development that contributes to the preservation of silvery lutung. Habitatnya yaitu daerah pesisir mangrove, tepi pantai dan riparian. Saat ini, penelitian lutung kelabu banyak dilakukan di pulau Sumatera, namun masih kurang informasi di pulau Kalimantan. Salah satu habitat yang menarik adalah hutan mangrove hasil restorasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui distribusi dan kepadatan populasi lutung kelabu, serta mengindentifikasi jenis pakannya di Kelurahan Handil Baru, Kecaamatan Samboja, Kabupaten Kutai Kertanegara, Kalimantan Timur. Informasi awal yang dapat digali adalah berupa kajian ekologi. Kepadatan populasi diketahui melalui pengamatan langsung dengan metode Concentration Count, sedangkan distribusi lutung dianalisis menggunakan software ArcGIS ver. 10.4. Cuscus (Spilocuscus maculatus) in captivity that were given a dominant fruit diet needed additional feed from their natural habitat because of the higher nutritional potential and fiber components. This study aims to determine the palatability of cuscus to the feed based on organic value. An experimental method was used, consisting of 4 treatment groups: 100% banana (Musa paradisiaca) as control, 70% banana mixed with 30% matoa (Pometia pinnata) leaves, 70% banana mixed with 30% ironwood (Pongamia pinnata) leaves, and 70% banana mixed with 30% crickets (Gryllus bimaculatus). The results showed that banana was the most preferred feed ingredient, either alone or as a supplementary feed mixture. In terms of quantity, its mixture with matoa leaves had a higher consumption level than ironwood leaves and crickets. The consumption level of organic matter was higher in the treatment with 100% banana than in other treatments. This information will help support ex-situ and in-situ conservation programs formulated by the government and other parties, including the community.
