Virtual Classroom (VC) learning approaches have recently drawn considerable attention because they have the potential to encourage student engagement to ensure active and collaborative learning. Although research on online learning has gained visibility in recent times, VC learning has not received notable attention, especially in Gulf countries like the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The study examines students’ perception and experience of VC in a university in UAE during the COVID-19 pandemic in terms of its necessity and helpfulness. This research also examines the situational pressure of VC and aims to explain the reasons for its desirability and inevitability. As a current learning space beyond the conventional face-to-face classroom learning, VC learning is available in various forms and quality depending on creating opportunities for the learners’ participation. However, there are issues with VC practice too. Our analysis of survey data (N = 334) leads to portraying autonomous learning freedom in different learning environments in VC. We argue that students may resort to VC not because of its proven effectiveness but because of the necessity to continue addressing their learning needs. This study contributes to the general understanding of the online and traditional in-person classroom learning and virtual learning resources in the teaching of English as a globally desired language.

<em>The policy of remote learning (PJJ) during the COVID-19 pandemic caused new problems for the students. The Implementation of the teaching and learning process has totally changed from face-to-face into online learning and some schools tried to integrate offline and online learning. This research objective was to see the students’ perception of the use of blended learning in English classes. The Subject of this study is Mechanical Engineering Students 4<sup>th</sup> Semester of STTR Cepu. This study uses a descriptive quantitative design. The researcher took data from a questionnaire on the students' perceptions in the use of blended learning which was consisted of 19 questions and an observation checklist to crosscheck the students’ answers in the questionnaire. Then, analyzing the data descriptively and measuring it using a Likert scale. The results of the study showed the students’ positive response toward the implementation of blended learning since it has great benefit in the teaching and learning process. The implementation of the blended learning method in English lessons required the teachers’ creativity in providing an English learning platform. This research also revealed the weaknesses of Blended Learning. The success of the implementation of blended learning depended on the availability of the facilities like internet access and network in applying that method. In addition, the knowledge of using technology was necessarily mastered by the teachers and the students.</em>

The COVID-19 outbreak influences nearly all facets of life, including education. This study conducted survey investigations to detect non-English students' views on the implementation of EFL online learning. This study used cross-sectional survey research designs employing questionnaires and interviews as data-gathering devices and procedures. The population of this study was all the first-graders of the Islamic Education Program of a State Institute for Islamic Studies situated in Central Java, Indonesia, in the academic year of 2020/2021. A number of 135 students took part as the sample of this study. The results of the study showed that there are three main phases of EFL online learning. First, at the preparation phase, they had high optimism of EFL online learning. Second, it turned into caution and forbearance at the implementation phase. At last, their optimistic level was increasing at the end (evaluation phase). This study means that it is not simple to retain the enthusiasm and optimism of students through EFL online study, particularly in non-English department classrooms. Teachers should be innovative in delivering instructions for learning, offering learning equipment, and selecting appropriate learning platforms. Teachers should also be able to comprehend pupils' psychological state to prevent boredom in online learning.
