Student Thoughts on Virtual Reality in Higher Education—A Survey Questionnaire

Abstract: This paper explores the benefits of using Virtual Reality (VR) technologies in higher education. The theoretical part investigates the classical education system and its features in order to compare advantages of using VR systems in education. VR technologies and its current state in industry and in education were explored in addition to which branches of higher education use these systems. A survey was conducted through an online questionnaire where respondents (N = 55) gave their opinion on VR and the implem… Show more

“…When asked if they prefer learning through VR experiences, those presented with the VR intervention were more likely to agree compared to those presented with the video lecture. While previous research has found that students generally prefer VR over a non-VR setting when learning [95], this result provides a new insight into the relationship between exposure and interest to learn with VR. These results also build on existing evidence of students generally preferring VR over a non-VR setting in educational contexts [95], [96], [97].…”

These results also build on existing evidence of students generally preferring VR over a non-VR setting in educational contexts [95], [96], [97]. Surprisingly, when asked if they preferred learning through video lectures, participants in both groups also agreed.…”

“…Researchers have also developed a university building-based 3D game for fire safety training, but a comprehensive evaluation of training has not been conducted [14,[26][27][28]. Cicek et al [29] surveyed high school students to understand their perception of VR in education. They stated that using a virtual environment is a new technology, and there is a need to analyze its use in education sufficiently.…”

“…Many studies have been carried out both by academics and governments from various countries [6] [7], how they rise from disasters and rebuild their tourism. Like Iceland, which was hit by the 2010 volcanic eruption, they were blocked from neighboring European countries.…”
