ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence (AI)-based chatbot that has expanded in popularity among users in several fields. It could transform education and support achieving sustainable development goals. Providing counseling and mental health services is a vital national goal for maintaining sustainable goals. As evidence of innovative technology’s ability to support sustainability in the digital era, no study has been found to investigate ChatGPT in counseling and mental health education based on students’ perceptions and experiences. Consequently, this study aimed to explore undergraduates’ perceptions in terms of the benefits and challenges of using ChatGPT in counseling and mental health education. The study adopted a descriptive quantitative approach using a purposive sample comprising 210 respondents who enrolled in the counseling and mental health program at the University of Jordan and experienced ChatGPT in their learning. The results reported that 81.9 percent of respondents perceived ChatGPT as a beneficial learning tool for counseling and mental health (M = 4.10); they perceived their ability to support most of the primary counseling skills and therapeutic conditions as the counseling dispositions and behaviors expected for reflection on meaning skills, empathic care, setting boundaries with colleagues, openness to feedback, congruence and genuineness, ability to record-keeping and task completion, and non-verbal skills. Furthermore, the findings reported that students experienced moderate challenges and concerns while utilizing ChatGPT (M = 3.21). The study’s findings suggest educators in counseling and mental health employ ChatGPT in the teaching and learning process. In addition, it proposes that decision-makers at the University of Jordan consider student concerns about ChatGPT.

This article discusses a model of teaching called HyFlex, or ‘hybrid’ and ‘flexible,’ which is primarily for programs teaching both in-person and online. It discusses how the HyFlex model works, including initial development, with guidance on language to help students understand its application. During and after the COVID-19 pandemic, some programs were forced to provide online options, and then transition back to classrooms. This article discusses curricular design strategies for student engagement and technology options for facilitating HyFlex teaching in a way that allows people to attend in person and online still. Important descriptions of accessibility options are included, as well, to meet the needs to students with disabilities. Finally, discussions of potential value to institutions for the purposes of enrollment and faculty critiques of the model will also be included.

In recent decades, under the influence of technological advancements, evolving student demographics, and shifting societal demands, the landscape of higher education has undergone significant transformations. Among numerous learning approaches, Flipped Learning (FL) has gained particular prominence due to its ability to enhance students’ performance through active engagement and self-directed learning. Another teaching and learning linked to indicators of students’ academic achievements is Peer-Assisted Learning (PAL). However, previous research on PAL remains scarce. To fill this gap in the literature, the effects of the integration of Peer Counseling (PC) activity into PAL on both academic and personal development within the flipped classroom setting over time were investigated in the present study. The study participants were counseling students (n = 91), including 60 students in the PAL-integrated flipped classroom and 31 in traditional classroom used as the control group. The results revealed that, over a 14-week period, PAL-integrated flipped classroom led to improvement in students’ Solution-Focused Thinking (SFT) skills, self-efficacy, and effective counselor characteristics, with medium to large effect sizes. The results also indicated the positive effect of PC on students’ counseling performance and achievement scores. These findings offer important implications for creating a collaborative learning environment. The paper concludes with a discussion of challenges typically associated with the implementation of flipped classroom in higher education.
