Structures and magnetic properties of trinuclear copper(II) halide salts

Abstract: The crystal structures of a series of trinuclear copper(II) halide salts have been determined. These all contain pseudoplanar, symmetrically bibridged Cu3Xg2" (la) or Cu3X7L" (lb) anions.

“…Unfortunately, the dependence of positions of ligand bonds in the electronic absorption spectra on the nature of H-bonds is not so evident, and no sufficient correlations were found. The same conclusion was made by Marcotrigiano and co-authors (Grigereit et al, 1987) with using IR spectroscopy data. The attempt to correlate the character of H-bonds in polycrystalline (H 2 L)CuBr 4 (L = 1-methylpyperazine; 2-methylpyperazine), as well as (HL) 2 CuBr 4 (L = 1-methylpyperazine) with the shift in ligand absorption bands in IR spectra of complexes with respect to those in corresponding hydrobromides also failed.…”

“…The general structure of the title material is unremarkable, with bond lengths and angles comparable with other structures containing the protonated moiety, where the anions are copper or palladium-based complex ions (Place & Willett, 1987b;Grigereit et al, 1987;Roman, Beitia & Luque, 1993). The bonds were slightly longer than those of the neutral compound (Espenbetov, Struchkov, Poplavskaya & Kurman-galieva, 1985), except for the Cll--N12 bond, which was slightly shorter (0.05 A).…”

“…Salts of [CuCl,(H,O)]-are also known (25). A number of infinite one-dimensional structures resulting from stacking of higher chloro-Cu(I1) oligomers have also been described (20,26,27). Chains are known for CuC12L2 compounds with ligands L such as imidazoles (28) and pyridines (29).…”
