Structures and Chemical Bonding in Antimony(III) Bromide Complexes with Pyridine

Abstract: Weakly or "partially" bondedm oleculesa re an importantl ink between the chemical and van der Waals interactions. Molecular structures of sixn ew SbBr 3-Py complexes in the solid state have been determined by single-crystal Xray diffraction analysis. In all complexesa ll Sb atoms adopt a pseudo-octahedral coordinationg eometry whichi sc ompleted by additional Sb•••Brc ontacts shorter than the sum of the van der Waals radii, with BrÀSb•••Br angles close to 1808.T o reveal the nature of Sb-Br and Sb-N interactio… Show more

“…where, R (A−B) is the interatomic distance between elements A and B, r cov is the sum of covalent and r vdw is the sum of van der Waals radii of the elements A and B. It was demonstrated, that NCC value correlates well with E (2) value for the complexes of antimony trihalides with pyridine 33 …”

“…Several noteworthy reviews are available in the literature, indicating the relevance of PnBs in the gas and solid states. In fact, this interaction has been used as a consistent tool in crystal engineering [43,44,[91][92][93].…”

“…Note, the molecular structure of 4 is similar to the structure of Sb 2 Br 6 Py 4 [12] and In 2 Br 6 Py 4 [27] complexes and [Sb 2 X 6 L 2 ] 1 coordination polymers (X = Cl, Br, I; L = 4,4'-bipyridine; 1,2-bis(4pyridyl)ethylene; 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane). [28] The SbÀ N bond lengths in SbI 3 complex are by ca.…”

“…[4,9] Thus, lone pair of antimony of triphenyl antimony derivatives forms halogen bonds with iodine atoms of 1,3,5-trifluoro-2,4,6triiodobenzene. [10] On the other hand, in complexes of antimony trichloride [11] and tribromide [12] with pyridine antimony increases coordination number to six by forming pnictogen bonds in which the lone pair of halogen coordinates to sigma-hole on the continuation of antimony-halogen bonds.…”
