Structured Peer-to-Peer overlay deployment on MANET: A survey

Abstract: There are many common characteristics between Peer-toPeer (P2P) overlay networks and Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANET). Self-organization, decentralization, dynamicity and changing topology are the most shared features. Furthermore, when used together, the two approaches complement each other. P2P overlays provide data storage/retrieval functionality, and their routing information can complement that of MANET. MANET provides wireless connectivity between clients without depending on any pre-existing infrastructur… Show more

“…In their survey, the routing protocols are classified based on link stability and mobility support and are explained with examples. A survey on structured Peer-to-Peer (P2P) architecture over MANETs was presented in [9]. This survey identifies approaches in terms of P2P systems and MANET underlay systems, and summarizes their performances.…”

“…And more detailed surveys have been published by Boukerche et al [6] as well as Alotaibi and Mukerjee [7]. Mojamed et al [8] summarized predecessor's research results and introduced eight categories: proactive routing, reactive routing, hybrid routing, hierarchical routing, multipath routing, multicast routing, geographical routing, geocast routing. However, among these routing categories, only a few researches focused on the real-time communication, especially the end-to-end real-time conversation.…”

“…[1] [2] [3]. One important characteristic is that they are self-organizing and self-configuring wireless multi-hop networks which do not rely on any existing infrastructure; as nodes are by themselves, servers and clients [4] [5]. Each node must act as a router to forward traffic unrelated to its own use.…”
