Hydrogels have been extensively explored for biomedical applications due to their ability to absorb high water content in its structure, which gives excellent biocompatibility. This work aims at obtaining biocompatible hydrogels with potential for use in increasing the mechanical strength of bone substitutes, or controlled drug release. Poly (N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) hydrogels were prepared by free radical polymerization with and without the addition of acrylic acid. Azobisisobutyronitrile and ammonium persulfate were used as initiator and N,N-methylenebisacrylamide was used as the crosslinking agent. The characterization of the hydrogels was performed by thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, infrared spectroscopy and swelling properties. The results obtained demonstrate different degrees of crosslinking and swelling of up to 490 ± 30%. The different properties of the hydrogels suggest different applications.

The aim of the present study is to develop a surface plasmon resonance sensor for the detection of vitamin B2, vitamin B9, and vitamin B12 in food samples by using the molecular imprinting technique. The vitamin B2, vitamin B9, and vitamin B12 imprinted and the non-imprinted surface plasmon resonance sensor chip surfaces were characterized by using contact angle measurements, atomic force microscopy, ellipsometry, and Fourier transform infrared-attenuated total reflectance. The real-time detection of vitamin B2, vitamin B9, and vitamin B12 was analyzed by using aqueous solutions in the concentration range of 0.01 ng/mL − 10 ng/mL for vitamin B2, 0.1 ng/mL − 8.0 ng/mL for vitamin B9, and 0.01 ng/mL − 1.5 ng/mL for vitamin B12. The limit of detection values was calculated as 1.6×10 −4 ng/mL for vitamin B2, 13.5×10 −4 ng/mL for vitamin B9, and 2.5×10 −4 ng/mL for vitamin B12, respectively. Selectivity experiments were performed by using vitamin B1 and vitamin B6. The reproducibility of surface plasmon resonance sensors was investigated both on the same day and on different days for four times. Validation studies of the prepared surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensors were performed by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS).

Synthesis and preparation of creatinine sensor material by molecularly imprinted method using N,N'-Methylenebisacrylamide (MBAA) and 2-Acrylamido-2-methyl-1propanesulfonic acid (AMPSA) as precursors, on nylon membrane had been conducted. The precursor i.e. MBAA and AMPSA is used as cross-linker monomer, and functional monomer respectively, with the creatinine as template. The performance of creatinine sensor material been studied by instrument response (resistance) pattern analysis to concentration of creatinine. The result of FTIR spectra and SEM photograph, indicated the formation of molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) on nylon membrane. Logarithmic pattern is appears as instrument response to concentration change of creatinine. Linear correlation of instrument response and creatinine concentration is observed at concentration ranges 1 to 5 ppm of creatinine. Comparative studies show that performance of nylon coated membrane is better than non-coated membrane. Linearity, limit detection, and limit quantification value of coated membrane is 0.9592; 1.2066 ppm; and 4.0221 ppm respectively. On the other hand for non-coated membrane, linearity, limit detection, and limit quantification value obtainedis 0.8799; 2.1607 ppm and 7.2044 ppm respectively.
