“…The lactam ring is slightly puckered, with maximum deviations from the least-squares plane of the ring of 0.045 (14),~ for N1 and 0.044(15)A for C4. The lactam ring in fl-propiolactam (Yang, Seiler & Dunitz, 1987) is planar, while in strained fl-lactams (Pfaendler, Gosteli, Woodward & Rihs, 1981) the N atom is highly pyramidalized with a deviation of 0.54 ~, from the plane of the three atoms to which it is bonded.
