Structure of 2,4,6-trimethoxy-1,3,5-triazine

Abstract: =0"71069A, /z=0.11mm -1, F(000)=360. The structure was solved by direct methods and refined to R = 0"050 for 577 unique X-ray diffractometer data. Delocalization of the s-triazine zr electrons ranges over adjacent O atoms resulting in the formation of a planar 2,4,6-trimethoxy-l,3,5-triazine system with stacking of triazine rings lying in the mirror planes at and 3b levels.

“…1). All bond lengths and angles in both molecules are normal (Table 1) and comparable to those in published structures (Hoffmann et al, 1999;Głó wka & Iwanicka, 1989). The dihedral angles between the planes of the pyridino[2,3-d]triazole and 1,3,5-triazine ring systems in the two independent molecules are 75.2 (6) and 82.3 (6) .…”

“…The analysis of C-N bond lengths and the endocyclic angles corroborates the earlier observations that the s-triazine system forms an irregular hexagon structure. 21 The C-N bond lengths range from 1.333 to 1.349 Å and the average angles at the N and C atoms are 114.8° and 125.1°, respectively. The conjugation of the lone-pair electrons at the NH 2 group with the ring -electrons makes the C-NH 2 bond length (1.337 Å) to be comparable to those C(sp 2 )-N(sp 2 ) of the triazine ring.…”

“…As we shall show, this typical structural feature of aromatic character is broken in the 2,4,6,-trimethoxy derivative, as shown by the x-ray structure 4 and in particular by low-temperature (100 K) x-ray measurements. This effect is also observed in 1,3,5-trimethoxybenzene.…”
